The five year anniversary of the Xbox One series is around the corner, and it’s about time you  get your hands on the top selling and the best reviewed Xbox One games of the year 2018.

Here’s a list below

Far Cry 5

Set in the wilderness of the fictional  Hope County, Montana USA, Far Cry series revolves around the guy who is all set to tame the wild and cope with the wildest unfortunate events.  Following the tradition of the previous Far Cry installments, the fifth installment has something new to offer regarding the storyline, gameplay and the graphics. The story inherits its predecessor versions and has you playing the Deputy who finds himself pitted against the Eden Gates. This wicked cult has enslaved the locals by turning them into mindless puppets who are ready to carry out their whims.

The storyline, as compared to its previous installments, is more refined. The graphics quality has come a long way and is rich in minor details. It has spectacular action and stunning scenery. It has four great villains, each with a different style. The one thing that gets a tad bit annoying with time is that it sticks to the old template of the previous Far Cry versions. However, Far Cry 5 is better in terms of originality. It provides more real-life scenarios than its predecessors.

This new release by Ubisoft is not all a disappointment. It boasts an excellent rating of 9/10 at Gamespot.

Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil has always been about hunting down zombies with humongous special anti-zombie weapons. Unlike the previous versions of the Resident Evil jammed with zombie storylines, this new part is an interesting twist on the entire series as it involves cannibalism. In short, the new installment might have bid farewell to zombies for some time.

Resident Evil 7 is a glorious return to the classic horror survivals. The storyline in this part has shifted to a first-person perspective. Despite that, the game still obediently follows the culture of horrors and creepy feelings.

The story revolves around a man named Ethan who is searching for his lost partner in the rural areas of Louisiana. During this journey, he encounters The Baker Family infected with some unknown deadly virus. The Baker Family are the main villains of the story, and Ethan has to undergo several lethal events if he hopes to survive and find his lost partner.

The new installment features some advanced graphics and fast action play. It has an incredible free-form stealth play. It is genuinely terrifying and has fantastic sound effects. Apart from everything, certain plot points aren’t impactful and impressing. Gamespot gave this an 8/10 rating.

The equipment and ammunition of both the characters are according to the art and etiquette of their fighting style and abilities. Emily and Corvo also have their unique style of destroying their enemies with their devastating powers.

Each level in the Dishonored 2 has quirky themes for fiction and mechanics. The aesthetic style of the game takes its inspiration from southern Europe. It depicts the same food, clothes and even the music of Karnaca.

The graphic detailing of Dishonored 2 is outstanding, featuring a beautiful world from start to finish. It is more varied than the original but is equally profound. Dishonored 2 has a Gamespot rating of 8/10.

Cuphead

Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game focused on the boss battles. Inspired by the cartoons of the 1930’s, the game runs in a 2D format encapsulating the ambiance of the old style cartoons. Developers of the game have thoroughly worked with the graphics. The visuals and actions are painstakingly designed according to the 1930’s cartoons. The game development involves the traditional hand-drawn cell animations, watercolor backgrounds and even the jazz musical score of the game is manually composed.

It is an incredibly challenging but rewarding game. It stands out because it has the look of the old school cartoons which is rare in the modern gaming style. This game will take you on a reminiscing roller coaster ride where you’ll think of the old Mickey Mouse and Scooby Doo cartoons.

The storyline of the game involves running away from the bosses. It provides challenging hurdles and levels where the thought of survival sounds like hoping for a lake in the desert.

Its classical theme is the primary reason for its popularity. The visuals are splendid. The game is responsive to the controllers. The only trouble you will find with this game is that it starts getting insanely tricky at every level. Gamespot rating is 9/10.

The gameplay is super fast. The storyline is excellent and will keep you hooked. It continues to add suspense so it won’t get monotonous at all.

Who doesn’t love Lara Croft?

This part is the sequel to 2013’s Tomb Raider and without any exaggeration, the new installment shook the heavens above. It massively upgraded the level of game sophistication in terms of both the storyline and the gameplay.

The story follows the adventures of Laura Croft among the mysterious humongous mountains. It will take you on a lengthy mission in which Laura will explore several undiscovered tombs filled with treasures. Tomb Raider games have always been famous for their outstanding storylines. The originality in the stories is the key factor in its high sales. If you have been a Lara Croft fan since your childhood days, this is the game you should play. The ancient mythological stories and folk tales that surround Lara will keep you intrigued till the very end.

The storyline is exceptionally well written. The visuals are mind-blowing.Besides the main mission the game also offers many side missions. Overall, there is a lot of game content to play. The only thing that might bug you will be Lara’s long hair that keeps floating in the directions of the “virtual winds.” Gamespot rating is 9/10.

You will experience the gameplay of Overwatch in three distinct modes, i.e., Escort, Assault, and Hybrid.

It is inventive and creative in its gameplay. You will not get bored of it because the continuous free updates keep on expanding the gameplay so there will always be more to discover. It’s sort of like an unending mission game until Blizzard Entertainment decides to stop the updates. The only point in the game when you might feel like crying will be if you end up in a lousy team.

Gamespot rating is 7.8/10.

Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter: World is an action role-playing game published by Capcom. The game received critical acclaim upon its release and this new installment was successful in capturing the sales in the Western market because the previous versions were common only in Asia.

To explore what lies in the New World, the hunter and his assistant set out for it, where they encounter great dragons the size of mountains.

The gameplay is a fun learning experience as you’ll be exploring and researching plenty of dragons. The graphic visuals are also mind-blowing. The animation of dragons is so fantastic that it looks a bit too realistic.

If you never heard of this game or never thought of playing it, well, it is about time that you should. It offers a great deal of gameplay, which is the very reason that the company has such a significant number of dedicated followers because it has managed to attract almost every type of player.

Gamespot rating is 8/10.

Hitman

If you have the vaguest idea about how the underworld super-mysterious-crime works, then you’d know about the infamous Agent 47.

Agent 47 is the protagonist of the Hitman series. Hitman is the stealth gameplay developed by IO Interactive. You will experience a staggering amount of content to be played in this new installment. It is by far the best one among this series. The most amazing thing about the game is that you get to set your storyline with Agent 47 and you will have an abundant places to wreak havoc upon.

On a more technical note, this new Hitman installation is a piece of extensive graphical work. The places and landscapes are almost too real to believe that it is a virtual world. The action play of Agent 47 is quite impressive. The actions are fast. Response time is fabulous. The portrayal of human reaction to violence is programmed exceptionally well. Sound and visuals are both on point.

There are a lot of hidden extras in the game however, too much of them can be a little frustrating. Gamespot rating is 8/10.

A Way Out

A Way Out is an action-adventure game developed by Hazelight and published b Electronic Arts EA. It is one of the best games you will ever play. It comes with an amazing storyline revolving around two prisoners who jailbreak and run in order to stay safe.

The game can be a bit of a trouble to play as it is played from a third person perspective. It is specifically designed for split-screen cooperative multiplayer, which means that it must be played with another player through either local or online play. You will play with the two convicted prisoners Leo and Vincent. The story of both the protagonists is told simultaneously but the gameplay of the players and their progress is not synchronized. So, you will have to cooperate with your partner in order to play the game and keep the prisoners safe. You will definitely enjoy this game once you will get a hold of it.

This game is a bit of a rollercoaster. From jail breaks to fixing cars, it uses both players’ time beautifully while still fitting in great set pieces, emotional character moments, lighter moments and a truly remarkable ending.

Gamespot rating is 7.1/10.

Rainbow Six Siege

The new entry in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow series, Rainbow Six Siege is a tactical shooter video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. This game is big in regards of shooting and fighting. Playing it feels like watching a movie with full emphasis on environmental destruction and cooperation between the players.

It is a first-person shooter game. The gameplay involves the training of the recruits and prepares them in order to fight against the terrorist group White Masks. Plus, it also has solo missions which you can play apart from the main gameplay. The game stands out well because the developers and the rest of the team consulted the actual counter-terrorism units. The team also took the inspiration from real life events of terrorism occurring around the globe and this is why it stands out to be authentic in its storyline and gameplay.

As it is a first-person shooter game, you can still choose many of the operators from the entire Rainbow Team. The operators have different nationalities and each of them has their special gadgets and weapons so; it will be a fun time playing with different types of recruits having different specifications.

You will enjoy the graphics as I said; it feels like watching a movie playing it.

Final Fantasy XV

Ever been a fan of anime? If yes, then this is the perfect game for you. We will have to admit that anime can be super addictive and imagine playing an anime video game will be even more addictive. Final Fantasy XV is an action role-playing video game developed and published by Square Enix. It is the latest installment in the long running series of Final Fantasy.

As you can guess, the story takes place in the fictional land of Eos and you will travel around this place with the protagonist Noctis Lucis Caelum. If you don’t know who he is, well then he is the heir to the Lucian throne. And like all big stories of thrones, this story also has a villain who stole something very special. The villain is Niflheim who steals a very precious crystal protected by the Lucian family and this game involves the adventures of Noctis in rescuing that crystal and protecting his throne. Don’t worry; you will protect the throne because all villains die at the end.

Apart from that, the graphic quality is good. The game is a good blend of classical and modern throne tale and you will pretty much enjoy playing it.

Gamespot rating is 7.5/10.

NieR: Automata – Become as Gods Edition

Here’s another anime action video game for you. A little late entry for the Xbox but as they say the wait is worth it. NieR Automata is an action role-play game developed by Platinum Games and published by Square Enix. And you have guess it right, it is a sequel to 2010 Nier and spin-off of the Darkengard series.

This edition will bring you a 4K experience on your screens. It is a little unusual game because you will hear the androids questioning the reason of existence alongside beating up the robots. When you won’t be mastering the acrobatic gunplay, the camera will play with angles that will turn into things like a topdown shooter, or aside scrolling brawler. The other interesting thing is that you will come across chip systems which will let you automate parts of the game you might struggle with.

Overall, the game is amazing. The depth of the story is perfect combined with an outstanding musical score. NieR has a lot of different combat styles and that is one of the reasons you won’t be bored playing this game.

Ori and the Blind Forest

We all love mysterious and fictional tales that involve adventure and a hooking storyline. Remember as kids, we loved the ancient stories of mystical creatures and we used to develop that world into our minds through our vivid imaginations. So, how would you feel like playing your childhood imagination on a big screen? I don’t know about you but I would definitely love it and Ori and the Blind Forest is the most epic and wonderful game in this regard.

It is developed by Moon Studios and published exclusively by Microsoft Windows for Xbox. It is probably among the best Xbox games. The storyline is beautiful and captivating way beyond your thinking. It covers the adventures of Ori, a white guardian spirit and Sein, the “light and eyes” of the Forest’s Spirit Tree.

It is a platform-adventure Metroidvania 2D game. The game involved Ori’s adventure along with Sein in order to store the balance of the forest by recovering the three important elements: Waters, Winds and Warmth. The game has an emotional plot, outstanding graphical content, and wonderful musical score. Ori and the Blind Forest will be hard on your fingers because it is quite addictive and you might not be able to leave your console.

Fallout 4

Looking for a heavy duty action game involving intense drama and fighting? Well, Fallout 4 is right at your service. Yes, it is the new installment in the Fallout game series and like the previous game versions; it is going to get you hooked as well.

Developed by Bethesda so of course, you are in for a heavy treat. An action role-playing game, Fallout 4 is set in an open world environment. You can play it with either first-person perspective or the third-person perspective.

The story takes place in 2287, ten years after the events of Fallout 3 and 210 years after the Great War. So now if you don’t know what the Great War is then in the Fallout’s history, the Great War was fought between China and the United States over the natural resources and resulted in a nuclear holocaust in 2077. It is kind of a post-apocalyptic retro future game including parts of America and the England.

There are many things and specifications that makes Fallout 4 a better version that its predecessors. The main character voice acting, improved gunplay and not having to look inside crates to loot them all make this a streamlined version of a now classic-formula. You might encounter some frame dripping occasionally but I know you will forgive the developers for that because the good is too much to feel angry over a tiny issue.

Gamespot rating is 9/10.

Titanfall 2

It’s amazing when we think of building up super intelligent strong robots and then befriending them and last but not the least, teaming up with our self-constructed robots and fighting against a fancy corporation. I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen in real life but you can team up with exoskeletons in virtual world and can plot against anything and anyone you want.

Developed by Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts, it might remind you of Call of Duty but keep in mind, Titanfall’s gameplay is superfast in comparison to that. The gameplay revolves around the story of Jack Cooper, a former rifleman who teams up with Titan BT-7274 after an accident to fight against Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) in order to stop them from developing a dangerous super weapon.

The fighting style is amazing. Plus, you will get to enjoy the superfast gameplay combined with outstanding graphics.

Gamespot rating is 8.1/10.

FIFA 18

Football fan, eh? Me too!

The best part about FIFA games is that they release the new installment every year with all the latest updates. For those who don’t know, it is a football simulation game developed by Electronic Arts and is the 25th installment of the series.

There is one particular reason why I love FIFA 18 so much and that is the outstanding quality of graphical content. The effects and designing is so real that it gets hard to distinguish it from the real world. The graphics are so top notch that if you don’t tell anyone, they’ll probably think there’s a live game going on TV.

FIFA 18 has all the latest team updates, the new uniforms, updated stadiums and even the crowd is more cooperative than the previous installments. The players seem original and real than ever. I won’t get into the Ronaldo and Messi feud but will have to admit, they both equally look good and real. FIFA 18 has distinct play style for every player and the plus point is, the players perform their unique celebrations as well.

As I said, no Ronaldo and Messi debate but guess who’s on the front cover of the game? It’s Cristiano Ronaldo aka CR7.

The gameplay is faster than FIFA 17. It is more challenging. You can play either as a Beginner or as a Professional. Select your teams, choose their uniforms and pick up the console to master the greatest of all times (GOAT).

Gamespot rating is 7/10.

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

What if hitman killed monsters and beasts instead of humans…? Well, Witcher 3 is not the monster killer version of Hitman series, it is just that the protagonist does a lot of monster hunting and killing in it or just put it this way, he’s a monster killer.

Developed and published by CD Projekt, Witcher 3 is an action role-playing game. It is the sequel to Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. It is also set up in an open world environment and you can enjoy the third-person perspective of the game.  The story revolves around the protagonist Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter known as a Witcher, who is looking for his missing adopted daughter on the run from the Wild Hunt.

Like most of the games, Witcher 3 is also set up in a fantasy world, Continent which is surrounded by extra dimensional worlds. We will have to admit, the game has an amazing scenic setting. The monsters are huge but I know you will fight them because you have a daughter to rescue. In fact, The Witcher 3’s world is one of the few game spaces to deserve the title – full of potential intrigue, folklore and gross beasts to slice into ribbons. You seriously need to buy this game and you won’t regret it.

Gamespot rating is 9.3/10.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins

As cool as the world “assassin” sounds, I’m pretty sure it takes a great deal and “no cool” process to become one. But no worries, the type of technology we have, everything is possible. What I mean is, you can play as an assassin in one of the top rating games: Assassin’s Creed.

It is developed and published by Ubisoft and is the tenth major installment of the series. It is a single player with a third-person perspective gameplay. It is set in the olden times and you will get to see the ancient Egypt dated back to the time of Pharaoh and Cleopatra.

You will be an assassin in this game, of course and your name will be Bayek and moreover, you will be the Medjay (In the New Kingdom of Egypt, were an elite paramilitary police force, serving as desert scouts and protectors of areas of Pharaonic interest. Reference: Wikipedia) and one more thing, you will have a wife named Aya. Your mission will be to protect the people of the Ptolemaic Kingdom during a time of widespread upheaval.

The game has an interesting and a strong storyline and I’m pretty sure you will enjoy playing it as much I did. As it is a stealth play, you will get to use various weapons from swords to daggers and lot more. The combat is outstanding. Graphics are amazing too and the eastern music adds a little more to the game.

Gamespot rating is 8.4/10.

Hellblade: Sanua’s Sacrifice

It’s very rare that you’ll come across games having female warriors and guess what; Hellblade has a female protagonist warrior.

It is a dark fantasy action-adventure game developed and published by Ninja Theory. The game involves the adventures of Senua and you will enjoy her amazing action and combat style. The gameplay is divided into two types: the first allows Senua to walk freely and interact with her surroundings. In a far-off land covered in mist and fog, a traumatized celtic warrior which is of course Senua will take you on a spiritual vision quest to suppress her inner demons. Plagued with severe psychosis, Senua’s past trauma manifests itself through dueling inner voices and visual hallucinations that compromise her emotional and mental state. On this journey, she’ll face abstract and reality-defying puzzles, and battle a seemingly endless horde of adversaries that aim to put a stop.

The graphical content is amazing. Storyline is a bit emotional as it involves self-discovery.

Gamespot rating is 7.9/10.

Call of Duty: WWII

You would have and must have heard about Call of Duty. It’s been played since ages and literally for generations. It is among the first video games which were released for the gaming consoles. The stories have evolved with each installment.

It is a first-person shooting game developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. It is the fifteenth installment of the Call of Duty franchise.

So, first of all, as per the title, the game is heavily focused on the World War II. The detailing is mastered to an efficient level. You can play it is a single player or can even team up around the world and can play group missions. As far as the graphical content and visual effects are concerned, you will be left in awe. From the warzone bombing to the fluttering of the soldier’s hair, everything and every motion seems effortlessly real. The storyline is wonderful. It has a main big mission and other small missions as well.

The best thig about Call of Duty games has been the musical scores. If you have played Black Ops II, you would remember its beautiful soundtrack. But the musical score of WWII is all set to give you goosebumps.

The game is outstanding!

Gamsepot rating is 9/10.

What Remains of Edith Finch

The common idea regarding playing games is that you will laugh and enjoy but what if I tell you it’s not the same with every game. Some games or this very particular game will be a little heavy on your heart if you are an emotional person like I am.

A mystery adventure game developed by Giant Sparrow is all ready to set you on a roller coaster of sentiments. It is a walking simulation game. The story revolves around the young woman who revisits her old family and discovers the mysterious facts and tales about her family line. The Finch Family is titled as America’s most unfortunate family. By back-tracking her family history, she discovers the reasons of the early deaths and unfortunate events which encircled the Finch Family. It’s a great game on love and loss. Each tale is built from completely different mechanics and “What Remains of Edith Finch” is among those games which use a different dimension for each part of the story.

It is a must-have for everyone’s gaming collection and especially if you are sentimental person.

Fortnite Battle Royale

You’d be lying if you said you didn’t hear about this game or even heard the word. Probably the most famous game of 2018, Fornite is developed by Epic Games as an online video game.

The current installment Fortnite Battle Royale has been the most successful one, drawing in more than 125 million players in less than a year. This game has become more of a cultural phenomenon.

It is a military game but not the typical military style game with bland simulation and colors. Rather it is a multicolored, fun and adventurous military game where almost a 100 players are dropped onto a large but constantly shrinking map. And all we need to do is to gather a lot of weapon and remain the last man standing or the team in order to be declared winners.

And last but not the least; don’t forget to do the Fortnite dance!

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Another perfect mission based fighting game for all you fighters out there. MGS V is an action-adventure stealth game developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami. Plus, it is the ninth installment of the series.

Set in 1984, nine years after the events of Ground Zeroes and a decade before the events of the original Metal Gear, the story follows mercenary leader Punished “Venom” Snake as he ventures into Soviet-occupied Afghanistan and the Angola–Zaire border region to exact revenge on the people who destroyed his forces and came close to killing him during the climax of Ground Zeroes. It carries over the tagline of Tactical Espionage Operations first used in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

The game is exceptionally well received and reviewed and you’re definitely in for a treat.

Destiny 2

Destiny 2 is another good option for everyone who loves shooting games. An online-only multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie and published by Activision.

Destiny is all about the interaction between the given Guardian and their foe. And foe can be an alien or an enemy Guardian in the Crucible or the new Gambit mode so there are different types of foes you will encounter in the gameplay. However, Destiny 2 has faced a little bit of criticism regarding the fact that it has made the Guardians slow at both ends, with lower power recharge rates and infrequent access to their most powerful and unique weapons.
