eSIM Compatible Phones in 2026: The Complete iPhone, Samsung, Google List

What to know

Complete 2026 list of eSIM-compatible phones. iPhone 17 series, Samsung Galaxy S25, Pixel 9, OnePlus, Motorola, Xiaomi. Plus the carrier-locked exception.

⚡ TLDR

The 2026 list of eSIM-compatible phones. IPhone 14+ all support eSIM (US models are eSIM-only). Samsung Galaxy S20+ supports eSIM (with US-specific exceptions). Google Pixel 4+ supports eSIM.

  • iPhone 17 series: All support eSIM. IPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max / Air are eSIM-only globally; standard iPhone 17 supports physical + eSIM in non-US markets.
  • Samsung Galaxy S20 onwards: eSIM support starting with Galaxy S20. Z Fold and Z Flip series all support. US-bought Samsungs sometimes have eSIM disabled.
  • Google Pixel 4 onwards: eSIM supported. Pixel 9 / Pixel 9 Pro both support dual-eSIM in 2026.
  • Carrier-locked phones: Cannot install travel eSIMs. Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock should say “No SIM restrictions.”
  • Skip: Older non-eSIM phones. Physical SIM travel is still possible but the eSIM convenience is significant.

eSIM compatibility is now the default on premium phones launched 2022+. The complications are: US-vs-international model differences, carrier-locked phones rejecting non-original-carrier eSIMs, and older phones (pre-2020) generally lacking support. This is the 2026 list, organized by manufacturer.

02Apple iPhone: the eSIM standard

WikiWalls verdict 9.5 / 10

Every iPhone since XS supports eSIM. IPhone 14 and later sold in the US are eSIM-only. No physical SIM tray. IPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max / Air are eSIM-only globally.

Apple’s eSIM rollout is the most aggressive: US-market phones since iPhone 14 (2022) have no SIM tray at all. IPhone 17 Pro and the new iPhone Air are global eSIM-only, regardless of country. Dual-eSIM is supported on all 2022+ iPhones. You can run a home eSIM and a travel eSIM simultaneously.

03Samsung Galaxy: complicated by region

WikiWalls verdict 8.5 / 10

Samsung supports eSIM on Galaxy S20 onwards globally. The catch: US-purchased Samsungs sometimes have eSIM disabled in firmware. Verify in Settings → Connections → SIM Manager.

Galaxy S25 Ultra is the most versatile Samsung in 2026 with dual-eSIM. S20 / S21 / S22 / S23 / S24 all support single eSIM. Z Fold and Z Flip series all support eSIM globally. The US-disabled-eSIM exception is the most-missed compatibility issue; Samsung does not advertise this clearly.

04Carrier-locked phones: the deal-breaker

WikiWalls verdict – / 10

A carrier-locked phone may reject eSIMs from providers other than the original carrier. Always verify before purchasing a travel eSIM.

Settings → General → About on iPhone, look for “Carrier Lock.” It should say “No SIM restrictions.” If it says anything else (e.g., “AT&T SIM”), the phone is locked and travel eSIMs may fail. Most US carrier financing deals lock phones until paid off; T-Mobile typically unlocks after 40 days of service.

05Which option should you pick?

Pick by trip pattern

  1. Have an iPhone XS or newer? → Supported. IPhone 14+ US models are eSIM-only.
  2. Have a Samsung Galaxy S20 or newer? → Supported globally. US-bought models: verify SIM Manager.
  3. Have a Pixel 4 or newer? → Supported. Pixel 9+ supports dual-eSIM.
  4. Phone is carrier-locked? → May reject travel eSIMs. Open with carrier or skip eSIM.
  5. Older phone, pre-2020? → No eSIM. Use physical tourist SIM at airport.

06FAQ

Does my phone support eSIM in 2026?

iPhone XS and newer: yes. Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer: yes (US-bought sometimes disabled). Pixel 4 and newer: yes. Older phones: typically no.

Are US iPhones really eSIM-only?

Yes. IPhone 14 and later sold in the US has no physical SIM tray. International models have both eSIM and physical SIM until iPhone 17, where Pro / Pro Max / Air are global eSIM-only.

Why are some US Samsungs eSIM-disabled?

US carrier-firmware customization sometimes disables eSIM on Samsung devices. Settings → Connections → SIM Manager. If you see “Add eSIM” missing, the firmware has disabled it. Some unlocked international models do not have this issue.

What does “carrier locked” mean for eSIM?

Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock should say “No SIM restrictions.” If locked, your phone may reject eSIMs from providers other than the original carrier. Open through your carrier before traveling.

Can I add a travel eSIM and keep my home line active?

Yes on dual-eSIM phones (iPhone 14+, Samsung S25, Pixel 9, etc.). Home line for inbound calls/texts; travel eSIM for cheap data abroad.

07WikiWalls verdict

WikiWalls verdict. iPhone XS+ and newer support eSIM. Samsung Galaxy S20+ supports it (US-bought sometimes disabled). Pixel 4+ supports it. Verify carrier-lock status before buying a travel eSIM. For older non-eSIM phones, physical tourist SIMs at airports remain the path.
